Microcurrent Therapy (in combination with other therapies) is helping Kent successfully battle Type 2 Diabetes
Microcurrent is a novel therapy that uses extremely low-level electrical currents (microcurrents) to treat nerve and muscle pain, inflammation, and other health challenges. Each tissue type in your body has its own signature electrical frequency, which may be disrupted by injury or disease. Microcurrent therapy simply restores normal frequencies within the cells, resulting in remarkable improvements in pain, inflammation, and function.
At the cellular level, this therapy stimulates a dramatic increase in ATP, the energy that fuels all biochemical functions in the body. It also bumps up protein synthesis, which is necessary for tissue repair. The ensuing enhancement in blood flow and decrease in inflammation translates into reductions in pain and muscle spasms and increased range of motion.
During a typical treatment, you recline or sit comfortably while specific microcurrent frequencies are delivered to targeted tissues. Electrodes are placed at strategic locations to direct the currents, and warm, moist towels are applied to facilitate conduction. Unlike the more familiar TENS units, which also use electrical currents to relieve pain, microcurrents are so weak that they don’t stimulate the sensory nerves, so you feel no shock-like sensations.
A treatment course typically involves several sessions, and benefits accrue over time. For this reason, we encourage patients who wish to receive this therapy to enroll in our Back to Health Program. Microcurrent therapy is safe, FDA-approved, and has no significant adverse effects. However, it is not recommended for patients who have pacemakers or are pregnant.
For patients with chronic pain, microcurrent therapy can be a godsend. Our track record at the Whitaker Wellness Institute is particularly good for intractable conditions such as fibromyalgia, neuropathy, shingles, sciatica, diabetic ulcers, and other conditions that often fail to respond to conventional treatment.
Microcurrent therapy is a part of our multi-modality pain relief protocol, and in addition to the conditions listed above, it is also an excellent treatment for injuries. When NFL player Terrell Owens sustained a severe injury to his ankle six weeks prior to the 2005 Super Bowl, everyone assumed his season was over. Terrell credits his ability to play—not to mention his spectacular performance—to microcurrent, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and other integrative therapies he underwent. Not surprisingly, microcurrent therapy is rapidly becoming a favorite of professional athletes and sports teams as well as weekend warriors.
In addition to pain relief and better functional status, many of our patients also report improvements in energy, mood, and sense of well-being after being treated with microcurrent therapy. Microcurrent works synergistically with our other innovative therapies and nutritional supplements to help patients avoid surgeries and reduce or eliminate their need for prescription drugs.
Because microcurrent therapy delivers specific frequencies to targeted tissues, it is an excellent treatment for a wide variety of conditions including:
- Back pain
- Diabetic ulcers
- Neck pain
- Slow-healing wounds
- Sports injuries
- Tendon and ligament pain
