Nutritional Counseling

Who Needs Nutritional Counseling?

The age-old phrase, “You are what you eat,” is a wise one. Of course, the health challenges we face have many causes, but chief among them is diet. That’s why nutritional education and one-on-one counseling with our certified clinical nutritionist is an integral part of the Whitaker Wellness Institute’s Back to Health Program. Who could benefit from this therapy? Perhaps the question should really be, who couldn’t?

America has the dubious distinction of being the fattest country in the world. Two-thirds of us are overweight and one-third are clinically obese. Poor diet is a primary contributor to our epidemic of obesity—and the surest solution to weight loss is to correct dietary indiscretions and incorporate regular exercise into the equation. A significant percent of overweight people have diabetes, and unless they can get a handle on their weight, millions more are heading toward this degenerative condition. The good news is, most of our patients have been able to control their weight and their blood sugar—without drugs—simply by changing their diet and exercising regularly.

There is no question that a poor diet increases the risk and severity of cardiovascular disease and that dietary changes can reverse disease markers such as high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It has also been clearly established that diet plays a role in cancerdigestive disorders, and many other diseases. No matter what your health concern, the nutritional education programs and personalized counseling we offer at the Whitaker Wellness Institute are a significant step toward optimal health.

How Nutritional Counseling Can Help You

You need only look at the list of best-selling books to know that people are looking for guidance on diet and nutrition. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of contradictory advice out there, and it’s terribly confusing for people who are serious about using diet as a therapeutic tool.

We place a great deal of emphasis on nutritional education and counseling at the Whitaker Wellness Institute. Ours is a commonsense approach that makes the transition to healthy eating an empowering and positive experience.

During our Back to Health Program, you will enjoy meals designed and prepared by our certified nutritionist and our gourmet chef. Our nutrient-dense diet is centered on fiber-rich vegetables and other low-glycemic carbohydrates and lean protein from fish, poultry, and beans. The meals we serve are an integral part of your therapeutic program for reversing disease and regaining health. You’ll attend a series of in-depth nutrition lectures and workshops to learn the science behind the Whitaker Wellness approach as well as practical advice on shopping, reading labels, cooking, and ordering in restaurants. A field trip to a local health food store and a cooking demonstration make it a truly hands-on, unforgettable learning experience.

Many Whitaker Wellness patients opt for a personal consultation with our skilled and experienced nutritionist. In addition to helping you learn about the power of nutrition, our nutritionist will help you clarify past mistakes, uncover problematic foods, and design a personalized diet for your specific problems and tastes. We will also provide ongoing support, by phone if necessary, to help you stay on track as you settle into your new way of eating.

If you need a little more help, our therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLC) or fasting/mini-fast programs may be prescribed by your Whitaker Wellness Physician. Together, these innovative weight loss therapies have helped countless patients shed unwanted pounds—and keep them off for good. We’re confident we can help you win your weight loss battle as well.
